Escena retro- Retro scene

Before anything else, thank you for taking time to read and comment my last post. I appreciate deeply your encouragement messages.
Surely in September it will start the commercial stage of Pequeñeces. I need to organize some things before, but today I show you the first scene that will be for sale.

I wanted to make a retro scene since I saw a wonderful armchair in Internet. I thought it would be easy to reproduce, so that, I set to work.

First I drew the pattern on a paper and cut the pieces of foam board. Then I covered each piece with silk and put a thin white cord. I glued all the pieces and this is the result.

He hecho dos tocadiscos portátiles.

I made two record player. A pink one for me, and a red one for this scene. They are made with drawing thick paper and some watch components.

They are painted with acrilic paint and ceramic glace. For the clasp and iron fittings  I used a piece of metal sheet of a can of food.

I made also a small table welding wire.

In the past, bright lacquered furniture were fashionable. To get this appearence, bright, soft and smooth, the stained balsa wood board was covered with two components resin witch make the wood acquires much more strength.

The scene is built into a wood box. It has a wood floor, a 70's wallpaper, a skirting board bellow , and a moulding in the top.

The ceiling lamp is made with three balls of jewelry and tiny LEDs inside.

The wall lamp is a leaf-shaped charm. I have bent it, and in the back I have glued a piece of acetate. I have applied white crystal paint

The round mirror is made with a mirror plastic sheet which is easy to cut and the packcaging of a face cream wich have a red mirror plastic sheet too, the centerpiece, is a bit convex, I think it was part of a tap.

To end up, I made some final details like all the jazz records...

...an ashtray made from air-dried clay, some books...

... a bottle of wine and a glass I bought at the Tom Bishop show in Madrid last year.

I put a little clear nail polish mixed with burgundy into the glass to create the illusion of red wine.

And this is the result, a retro scene that represents a perfect afternoon.

The voice of Sarah Vaughan, a good wine, a good book....

...because happiness lies in small things.

¡A vuestra salud!
Un abrazo y gracias por todo.

I hope you liked this post and it will be helpful to you. Cheers!
Hugs and thanks for everything.

Reflexiones en voz alta- Thinking out loud

This past week I finally started making miniatures again, a very simple scene that I will show you when it will be finished. But today's post is a reflection that I would share with you.

I never thought that being a miniaturist would become so important to me.
People who believe that making miniatures is simply making small things are deeply wrong.

I studied Fine Arts, and I enjoy painting or drawing, but nothings is comparable to the enjoyment of making miniatures. This activity requires drawing, designing, learning all kinds of things related to Decoration and Interior Design, Furniture, Architecture, Art History, Electricity, even Chemistry (if you remember my previous post) ... in order to be exact, to make things work or not to commit anachronisms.
One must add that this hobby offers us the possibility of puting into practice traditional decorative techniques such as silver leaf, gold, trompe-l'oeil, stucco, decorative painting, oil paintings, watercolors, pastels, engraving, sculpture and modeling techniques with different materials, etc.
As if this were not enough, in my case photography is another hobby attached to miniatures, along with digital editing programs.

Far from what people think, being fond to miniatures doesn't require spending a lot of money. In fact this economy is closely related to our abilities and knowledge. How many times have you bought a miniature item and you have thought you can do it much better!?
In fact this blog was born with that spirit. With the romantic idea that knowledge is Universal and should be available to everyone. (I have to take advantage of this point to defend Spanish Public Education, and the Art subject wich will dissapear with the next educational reform promoted by the incompetent minister Wert)

I've been a long time mulling over the possibility of selling my miniature scenes. I think this is a natural step for any artist who believes in his work. Besides, I was artisan before becoming a teacher, so I'm not new at this point.
When I have talked with my family and friends about this, they encouraged me to do it, but some of them have told me that the fact of sharing my experiences, my knowledge and tricks may affect negatively on sales.

I admit that I've thought about it, and they may be right. However I have decided to continue telling how I do my scenes, in order to be consistent with my ideas, and why not? by romanticism.
I remember when I was studying Fine Arts at the University of Salamanca. Some times we where drawing or painting the same models by using the same technics. Each student had an absolutely different and non-transferable view on their work, so that ,each piece was unique.

I am convinced that despite the fact of sharing what I learn, my scenes are also a pure reflection of me.

I hope not to bore you with my thoughts. Having my arm broken has made me really miss making miniatures and share them with you. Furthermore, it seems to my that it was important to comment this with you.
Hugs and thanks for being there.
(I must say sorry for my english)
