Libros sobre miniaturas- books about miniatures

Since I began doing miniatures, I have bought many books about this issue. The majority of them, bought online, wich facilitates for example to buy very cheap second hand books. However the biggest drawback is that you can not browse them, so the book cover and the opinion of others are our only references, this is the reason because many times I've disappointed when the book arrived.

None of the books I've bought seemed to me really bad, but it is true that I do not recommend some of them for many reasons: lack of photographs, difficult details , old fashioned ideas, books hard to read, unhelpful, or just unattractive.
So today's post is about books I do recommend, and I think you will like to have. I know some of them are quite famous, but I have to mention them.
Unfortunately, the supply of books about miniatures in Spanish is zero, so the language can be a handicap for spanish speakers.

If it is possible, I recommend you to visit the blogs of the authors because that will be the best reference of all, in fact, sometimes what some people look for has nothing to do with what we seek, for instance, when I'm looking for a book of miniatures I need good color photographs to be really interested. Of course there are good books with lots of technical drawings to make furniture or architectural details, but if you only have diagrams and there are not photographs ... bufff that is like reading Joyce's Ulysses.
You can watch some videos turning the pages, I try to give you an idea of how they are inside. After all, that's what we all do when we have a book in hand, I hope the authors do not I feel upset.
I must say sorry for the videos quality, please, donn't laugh ;-)

LE GRAND LIVRE DE LA MAISON MINIATURE de Christine-Lea Frisoni
Editorial: FLEURUS
ISBN: 978- 2- 215-09359-6
Idioma: Francés
Páginas: 191
Color.

To me this is a delightful book from every point of view. It's pure inspiration, but also information, techniques, many projects, clear explanations, wonderful photographs and scenes full of beauty.
I think it is not necessary to speak French to enjoy it.
You can visit Lea blog to get close to her particular style. She also offers some tutorials and above all, very inspiring images.

THE AUTHENTIC TUDOR & STUART DOLLS' HOUSE de Brian Long
Editorial: Guild of Master Craftsman Publications
ISBN:1- 86108-406-4
Idioma: Inglés
Páginas: 207
Color.

I recommend this book only if you understand English well, even though this is not a book of project itself, it is rather a book full of information about tudor and stuart architecture , with many geographical references that enable us to expand information on the Internet, (including travel planning). There are plenty of illustrations and photographs with decorative and architectural details, everyday objects, typical accessories, furniture, etc in order to avoid committing anachronisms while building Tudor and Stuart houses or scenes.
Needless to say that I also find very useful, if you are interested in popular, rustic, medieval, fantastic styles, etc.

MAKING MINIATURE FOOD AND MARKET STALLS by Angie Scarr

Editorial: Guild of Master Craftsman Publications
ISBN: 978-1-86108-215-2
Idioma: Inglés
Páginas:128

MINIATURE FOOD MASTERCLASS , Materials and Techniques for Model-makers by Angie Scarr
Editorial: Guild of Master Craftsman Publications
ISBN: 978-1-86108-525-2
Idioma: Inglés
Páginas: 159
Color

Angie Scarr books are esential to lose the fear of fimo.
There are simple projects for beginners and other more complicated. But the most important thing is those books provide us with knowledge to develop our own ideas intuitively.
Despite being in English, I think there are easy to understand because the images are good and the processes are very clear.

MAKING UPHOLSTERED FURNITURE IN 1/12 SCALE by Janet Storey
Editorial: Guild of Master Craftsman Publications
ISBN: 1-86108-301-7
Idioma: Inglés
Páginas: 165
Color

From an aesthetic point of view, this book may seem a bit old fashioned, however I think it can be very useful. If you use more modern fabrics you'll get a contemporary look.
It has thirteen classic seats projects, some like the mythical chesterfield sofa, or the wing chair .... In the book you can find patterns to make the wooden structure  and how to upholster.
It is written in English, but the steps are very clear depict.

For now this is all about recommendations on books of miniatures, if I find any more I will keep you informed.
I hope this post has been helpful. Perhpas I gave you a good idea about your Christmas presents.

By the way, I almost forgot to wish you Merry Christmas.
Hugs and many thanks.

Herbarium

When I was in the first course of the secondary school, One of the best teachers that I ever have,Francisco Teixidó, the teacher of Natural Sciences asked us to make an herbarium.
I remember my father helping me to find plants, dry them and make the classify with his books.

...While I was doing this scene, I've being thinking on both with great affection and additionally, I was thinking on all the good teachers I have had, thus I dedicate this smallness to all them.

To make this scene, I used three MDF boards of 6mm thick, assembled with little sticks..Each surface has a different finished , a wall with bricks made using a template and wall putty cover colored with wax and eye shadows.

Another wall covered with wooden slats, and the floor with wood too but with a different design.

I dyed first in oak and them in ebony to get a dark but warm colored wood.

I made the top of a wall with wood too, and on the oder side of the scene I also made an open shelf.

To make the roof , I used a peace of hard cardboard. One side covered with strips of wood, and the other side with simulated slate tiles. Cardboard painted using a sponge.

The table is very sanded and bleached ( paint first with white acrilic and clean before it dry)

To make the herbal plants, I used some cutters and tissue paper in different colors.
In brown paper folders we put the dried plant glued on a cardboard, at the bottom of it small label with the plant scientific name, description and uses. Finally a sheet of tissue paper protects the plant inside the folder.
The basket where the herbarium rests is made with metal mesh painted with acrylics.

The trunk is made of balsa wood in different thicknesses.

To make the cover, I dyed the wood and when it was still wet, I tied it to a thick round stick and let it dry. The hinge is a piece of cloth, and the interior is lined with miniature newspapers.

The press to dry the plants is made with two boards, and two straps. Inside, between the boards, newspapers envelop the plants.

But in a herbarium, there is not only dried plants, there are also seeds, fruits, bark, wood samples plants preserved in preservative liquids, aquatic plants, fossils, fungi, plants ...
So I used to these specimens, some glass jars filled with moss, dried flowers, bark, sand, shells, seeds, aquarium plants, etc. The liquid is cristal resin.

Finally, I made the chair by soldering wire, I made some books with pieces of leather...

..a picture with the nerve skeleton of a leaf, some fresh flowers in a jar, a pestle and a mortar, some pictures...

...dried flowers and plants hanging from the ceiling and the morocan lamps, wich tutorial is here,..

And that's all. I hope you like this post. This scene is at your disposal on my ETSY shop.
Thank you for being there.

¡Suerte!- Good Luck!

Only a small post to tell you that one of my scenes has been published again in the number 187 of the magazine Miniaturas

Like the two previous times, it has been a pleasure and an honor :-)

The next weekend is the Tom Bishop Show in Madrid. I won't be able to go this year either, so I'll stay with the desire to meet people that I only know online and with which I 'd like  meet up for a drink, and have fun. Maybe next year ...

I wish good luck with sales to the artisans, to visitors happy shopping, and I wish you all that you spend three days unforgettable...Ah! and do not forget to laugh a lot!

Huevos frescos- Fresh eggs

One of those things I like the most is to answer your emails. But I have a problem with virus or something, so I'm not able to answer them until I fix my computer :-/. I thank you in advance.

This scene appeared in October in the journal Miniaturas. Since the magazine is Spanish, I translated the article into English.

To do this scene, I used two DMF boards, one for the wall and the other for the ground. In the third wall I wanted to put a window, so I used thick balsa to simplify. All the boards are assembled with wood wtiks.

With templates and putty, I got the texture of the walls and floor.
First I painted the walls white, then painted some stones here and there with brown, ocher, yellow, etc. and to homogenize the color I applied a thin white with sponge.

Both, the door and the window are made of thin balsa wood.
The wood is oak color dyed and then painted with black acrylic for certain parts, then I applied the first component of crackle varnish. Once it was dry, I added blue and white on some parts.
Finally, I applied the second component of crackle, in different areas.

On a clear rigid acetate, I drew straight lines mimicking stained glass windows with embossed silver paint. Behind the acetate, I painted the diamonds with stained glass paints of different colors.

I realized the porch with thin slats of wood and polo sticks

The details are a compendium of recycling staff.

With caps and pieces of copper pipes I realized a few containers pots, the interior is black air drying putty textured with a toothbrush.
To paint on plastic or metal, I recommend you to buy a primer specific for these materials

I made the lamps, the ceiling lamp with a suction cup, I painted some rusty effects with a sponge and the hurricane lamp with air drying putty, using a plastic tube.
I remind you that here you have a specific page where I tell how to make different lamps, including this one.

The bell is a door mobile of a shop and I did the support with wire.

The porch shelf is a piece of wood of the countryside attached to the wall by a black aluminum wire.

The wooden house is a scrapbooking embellishment painted and crackle.

El buzón lo hice con estaño.

I did the letter box with tin.

And finally the plants are made with Fimo following some tutorials on the Internet and seasoned with a bit of intuition.

I hope you liked it. Thank you for being there :-)

¡Ojo!- Caution!

Hallo
A few days ago someone sent me a message to follow me through Google.
I do not know much about social media, and I am pretty trusting by nature, in addition I use LINEX so I feel safe from viruses, so I accepted that person to continue my publications. To do this, I had to re-enter my gmail keys on the website Search flipora.

So I thought this was something to do with Google, now I doubt it very much, because since that a lot things happened and I am realy in a bad mood.

The first and obvious is that my Google navigation bar has been changed to the WEB SEARCH (FLIPORA??) To make matters worse , these people are dedicated to sending me messages that I won lots of prizes on the Internet, this fact can give you an idea that this is clearly a virus.
Since then I do not use gmail, so if you get a message saying that I want to follow you or something, please, ignore it. And if it's late. Clean the computer with the antivirus.

These are the web pages that invade my  computer sice them.

At the date of today, I am only in the real life, facebook, gmail and pinterest, so don look for me anywhere
Thanks and I apologize for possible inconveniences.

Miniaturas

This month my miniatures were published again in the specialised magazine Miniaturas :-)
Thank you for your messages of congratulation. I'm very happy.

The published articles were about two scenes and each elaboration process.
The first one is a very autumnal scene called “Fresh eggs” and it represents the porch of a country seat where eggs are sold.

The second one is an Herbarium. Curiusly, it has a medieval and modern atmosphere.

And if that were not enough , my tutorial about making moroccan lamps was also published.

These two scenes will be at your disposal exclusively in the Miniature on-line fair in Spanish
the next 26th, 27th and 28th of October . You will be able to see more details and photographs there.
